Party Mountain came steam-rolling through Vail this weekend. Original plans of slogging into the high alpine were scrapped due to low visibility, winds and high amounts of localized snowfall. When the high peaks are socked in, I take note. We opted to stick to the lift-served backcountry, where we managed the new snowfall and increasing avalanche danger through optimal terrain choices.
